Today we headed back to Ekisa and picked up Zeke for an outing again. We walked to the Nile Resort and took him swimming. Our friend David came with us too, and Zeke was happy to have an Uncle with us. Zeke was a little afraid at first, but then he liked swimming. We stayed for a few hours, and had lunch by the pool. Then we headed back to Ekisa and spent the afternoon.
Then we headed into town and had dinner with Kelcey and Megan from Abide. It was so great hearing their plans for Abide. We are so excited to see how God is going to use them.
Kelcey and Megan both worked with a local orphanage and saw that many families felt their only option was to give up their children, when really all they needed was help. Many of the social services that we take for granted in the States do not exist here in Uganda, there is no assistance from the government. There are cases when the mother dies during childbirth, and because the family can not afford formula they give up the baby. Or families that needed temporary help, or housing felt they had no other choice but to leave their children with an orphanage. There are cases where children are truly orphans, and have no family, or reconciling with their families is not in their best interest, and those children deserve loving families and adoption whether domestically or internationally is the best solution. But for the children who do have families who love them and want them, Abide will provide services for them.
They are two amazing women, who God is truly using in a BIG way. We can’t wait to come back next year to see Abide up and running, they open officially August 1st.
After dinner we took our first boda boda ride, Mali has been afraid to ride the motorcycle taxis, but now she’s a pro and its all she wants to take.
