Today we went to the field with our friend Renee and her organization Serving His Children to their out-patient clinic in the Sono, Manafwa District. Serving His Children runs a malnutrition program where they educate care givers about proper nutrition and also help feed babies and get them back healthy.
Sono is about 3 hours outside of Jinja, right on the Kenya border. It was a long and bumpy ride, but so pretty up in the mountains. First we stopped at a local hospital and picked up the medical staff, and then headed up the mountain to the clinic.
When we arrive mamas and their babies were waiting. We unloaded and got set up. the SHC staff did a nutrition class and then we measured and weighed the children to track their growth, then the doctor examined them and prescribed the children with medicine if they needed it.
I held a set of twins that were so tiny….they weighed 1.8 kg (which is less then 4 lbs) they are so beautiful and sweet.
I love getting to spend time with Renee and see her programs, she is one of my mentors here in Uganda. They are doing amazing things!
It was a long but awesome day!
